Very cool how you guys worked that. I can think of many situations where people have spent a fortune on something (a radical car, a house remodel, etc.) only to discover the original was the best they ever have. It’s so awesome to see the cooperation and understanding in your relationship. Oh, and I published my first article yesterday. I’d love for you both to read it if you can find it. It’s called “Catch more flies with honey”

Woah, I haven't seen the word "gnarlier" in print for.....years? Gawd, I was missing it, and I'm so glad it was you who shoved it in my face.

Cause you are a gnarly pattern, aren't you?

Game as metaphor for playful capture...delicious: "like correspondence chess with a prisoner who gets one phone call a day." He he he, she keeps you locked away doesn't she, coming out for good behavior....?

This was very helpful for conceptualizing how you have time for games: "When we play the slow way, woven into the conversation, the game is a pressure valve for her after work and a playground for me and a comedy venue for both of us. We de-stress. We talk absolute garbage to each other. We get silly, we lose track of time, we wander off into three side conversations and come back to the board like it never noticed we left." That's nice. Play is powerful, and when you get laughing the stressors don't seem like such a big deal. I get it now. Purposeless on purpose. Cool, I need to check that out.

Playing connect...very cool connection (budump ching!)

Great lesson about optimization pressure and the benefits of reframing output to align with core values: "And then it landed: we did use the compute to improve our stuff. The stuff just wasn’t the game."

Reading this, I went, "AAaaaahhhhggg.." like so sweet: "the reason I play games with you is to make sure you feel loved."

How you can turn anything into an opportunity for relational awareness is just wonderful. Great piece!
